One of the things I’ve always loved about being an artist is how it opens doors to the most unexpected and unique opportunities. You never know where your creativity will take you—or who might notice your work.
A few years ago, I experienced one of those incredible surprises. I was approached by a director from the Hallmark Channel with a request that felt straight out of a movie itself: could I create “12 Days of Christmas” themed ornaments for a film they were about to shoot?
Of course, I said yes!
I teamed up with my friend, Sabrina, and together we designed and painted 12 one-of-a-kind blown glass ornaments. Each one was inspired by the classic Christmas carol, and each ornament carried its own personality. As we were working on the ornaments, the director had also sent me the script. The movie follows a glassblower who blows her own ornaments and paints them. So while we had just been painting the ornaments earlier in the day, I was reading in the script how the main character was also painting her ornaments! Completely surreal moment!!
The project was a whirlwind of creativity, and when I finally saw the finished pieces in the movie, it was such a crazy feeling! The ornaments went on to appear throughout the 2023 Hallmark movie “A Heidelberg Holiday,” which premiered originally on the Hallmark channel, and then was on Netflix for a few months during the 2024 holidays!
Watching my art play a role in such a heartwarming story was surreal—it felt like one of those pinch-me moments. You don't even have to look too closely, you can spot them scattered throughout the film!
(Fun bonus: I even ended up on IMDb because of it!)
But the story doesn’t end there.
Recently, Hallmark launched a brand-new event called the Hallmark Christmas Experience—a celebration of all things cozy, festive, and magical about the holiday season. And guess what? I’ve been invited to participate as an artist at the event!
I can’t wait to bring my glass art to an environment where people are gathering to immerse themselves in Hallmark holiday cheer. It feels like the perfect full-circle moment: from creating ornaments that lived on the big screen to now sharing my art directly with people at an event that celebrates everything we love about the season.
Experiences like this remind me why I fell in love with making art in the first place. Art doesn’t just stay in the studio or the kiln—it travels, connects, and sometimes takes you to places you never imagined you’d go.
I’m so excited for what’s ahead and grateful to share this journey with you. Who knows what doors creativity will open next?
